Today is Alexander Calder’s birthday. Known for his hanging mobile sculptures, he was born in nearby Lawnton, PA. His father and grandfather were also sculptors whose work is featured prominently in our city. In fact, Alexander’s grandfather Alexander Milne Calder made the William Penn statue on top of City Hall. You can see the youngest Calder’s “Ghost" in the Museum’s Great Stair Hall, hanging from the ceiling.
